Jeffrey P. Maks
Mr. Maks has been in private practice since 1987 emphasizing his practice in the substantive fields of workers' compensation, personal injury, product liability, wrongful death and labor and employment, representing injured workers and selected employers and insurers.
Mr. Maks is originally from Portland, OR. He obtained his B.A. degree in 1982 from Creighton University in Omaha, NE and his J.D. degree from the University Of South Dakota School Of Law in 1986, where he also served as an Editor of the South Dakota Law Review. Upon graduation, Mr. Maks served as a law clerk for the judges of the Fourth Judicial Circuit Court (formerly the Eighth Judicial Circuit) and commenced his private practice of law in 1987.
Through the course of his practice, Mr. Maks has lectured at a number of seminars and presentations dealing with the topic of workers' compensation with those in attendance, including members of labor, employer representatives, claims adjusters, other attorneys, physicians and vocational rehabilitation vendors.
Mr. Maks is licensed in South Dakota and is admitted to practice in all South Dakota State Circuit Courts, the South Dakota Supreme Court, the United States District Court for the District of South Dakota and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Mr. Maks is a member of the South Dakota State Bar Association and the South Dakota Trial Lawyers Association. He has been a member of the Workers' Compensation Committee of both the State Bar and the State Trial Lawyers Association, respectively.
Mr. Maks and his wife, Dory, have resided in Rapid City since 1987 and have two children, Chris and Courtney. Chris is a graduate of South Dakota State University with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and is currently with TSP in Rapid City. Courtney is currently a junior and is pursuing her nursing degree at South Dakota State University at its West River campus in Rapid City.
